Give it your best shot
The Running Dynamics Pod easily clips to your belt to measure the Running Dynamics (stride analysis) you need to push yourself. So you can run without a heart rate monitor. Once you've paired the device with your compatible watch1, clip it to your back in the center of your belt and run as usual.
Calculate your fitness
View and analyze important running metrics such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time, ground contact time balance, vertical oscillation, and vertical ratio. These biomechanical measurements can help you understand how you run so you can improve your performance in future races.
How does it work?
The Running Dynamics Pod has an accelerometer that measures your torso movements and derives 6 running metrics:
- Cadence is the number of steps per minute. It indicates the total number of steps taken (left and right feet combined).
- Balance at ground contact time shows the left/right balance at the moment you touch the ground with your foot when you run. It is displayed as a percentage. For example, 53.2 with an arrow pointing left or right.
- Stride length is the length of your stride from one step to the next. It is expressed in meters.
- Vertical sway is the bounce when you run. It shows the vertical movement of your chest, expressed in centimetres for each step. The higher this is, the more you run upwards instead of forward. So there is a loss of energy.
- The vertical ratio is the ratio of your vertical swing to your stride length. It is displayed as a percentage. If this ratio is low, it usually indicates that your running technique is good.
- Ground Contact Time is the amount of time you spend with your foot on the ground during each step of your run. It is expressed in milliseconds. The longer it is, the less dynamic your stride is.
