This saves weight and reduces the size of the bag, but also traps air to increase warmth and contributes to the mat's R-value of 3.4, while the rectangular shape allows you to sleep in many positions. The discreet two-way valve allows you to quickly inflate the mattress when the weather's threatening, and easily deflate it when you're ready to roll it up in its storage bag.
