Below is a list of tips for setting up your camera trap in the field:

  • Install the device at about 1.5 m/2 m high, pointing slightly downwards.
  • Install the device facing north or south. Do not point the device east or west as the sunrise and sunset can cause false triggers and produce overexposed images.
  • To monitor a game trail, point the device along the trail rather than perpendicular to it. This allows multiple animals to be seen at once if they pass in a line.
  • Avoid placing the device on a weak tree that may move in strong winds. Try to place the camera on a stable and fixed support.
  • Clear any branches or grasses in front of the device. In windy conditions or high temperatures, they could cause false triggers.
  • Check the battery status before setting up the device.
  • Make sure the memory card is properly inserted.
  • Don't forget to turn on the camera before leaving (selector in position M1, M2, or M3).
